Mumbai vs Tamil Nadu: Shardul Thakur’s heroics guide Mumbai to amass huge lead

Shardul Thakur hammers a magnificent maiden century to prevent Mumbai's collapse in Ranji Trophy Semi Final

Shardul Thakur proved to be Mumbai’s saviour. After Mumbai’s batting order collapsed, it was Shardul Thakur’s magnificent century that helped Mumbai take a massive lead against Tamil Nadu. Mumbai ended Day 2 with a massive lead of 207 runs. A large credit of the same goes to Shardul who has managed to score 109 runs.

Mumbai began Day 2 with a score of 45/2. But the Tamil Nadu bowlers struck back hard. As a result, the entire Mumbai side experienced a massive collapse. Down the order, Sarfaraz Khan’s brother Musheer slammed a gritty fifty. Ultimately it was Shardul who saved his side from the blushes.

Skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s poor form continued again. The captain departed after managing to score 19 runs. All eyes were on Shreyas Iyer who return to play domestic cricket after his BCCI Contract snub. But Iyer too had a poor outing after being dismissed for just 3 runs.

When all seemed lost, on came Shardul Thakur to hold the reins. Earlier on Day 1 he managed to bag two wickets. And now the next day, he shone with the bat. Shardul Thakur hammered his maiden century. He blasted off to a score of 109 hitting 13 fours and 4 huge sixes.

Thakur was partnered by Tanush Kotian. He remained resolute and registered a fine fifty. At stumps on Day 2, Mumbai has a score of 353/9 with a lead of 207 runs. Tanush Kotian remains unbeaten on 74.
