It was pathetic: Lahore Qalandars owner bashes PCB for poor treatment of Haris Rauf

Rauf was chastised by Mohammed Hafeez during his short stint as Pakistan cricket team director, and his central contract was terminated.

Lahore Qalandars owner, Sameen Rana, has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their poor treatment of Haris Rauf. The premier pacer had made a name for himself after representing the franchise in 2018. His performance soon catapulted him to the national side, and he became a constant member of Pakistan’s T20I side.

The fact that Haris hadn’t come to the fray from domestic cricket meant that he would struggle in longer forms of the game. His struggles forced him to move away from Test cricket, and that miffed the PCB. Last year, he told the board that he would not play in Australia and faced the wrath of PCB, who terminated his contract and banned him from playing in T20 leagues until June.

While talking with ESPNcricinfo, Lahore Qalandars owner Sameen Rana said:

“The timing of that announcement was wholly unnecessary. There was no Pakistan series coming up, or any emergency situation that necessitated the announcement two days before the PSL. Whatever the logic was, the timing was really bad. It was a huge blow psychologically for him, because his whole life’s main aim is playing for Pakistan.

“Rauf’s our premier bowler, our highest wicket-taker after Shaheen Afridi. To publicly humiliate him and issue a press release announcing the termination of his central contract, I have never seen this happen anywhere. I would never treat my employees like that.

“The employee at least has the right for you to call, email or message them. None of that happened with Rauf, and it was pathetic. It was really poor management.”
