After being crowned the new skipper of the Mumbai Indians (MI), Hardik Pandya has shared a funny story about his first ‘Player of the Match’ award in the IPL. Pandya, who was picked up by MI in the IPL 2015 auction, recalled how he thought that when you win the award, the money goes to the individual.
The common misconception is shared by many, and Pandya has decided to share how he too was duped by it. The all-rounder had won his first ‘Player of the Match’ award in his first IPL season in 2015. After his incredible 21-run cameo in just 8 balls against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 43rd match of the season, Pandya received his first player of the match award.
Recalling the ‘funny’ incident, Pandya, while talking with a famous YouTuber, The UK07 Rider, said:
“When I first received the ‘Man of the Match’ award in the IPL, I thought the money we get from the award went to the individual. I had a 10 lakh contract at the time, and I thought whatever the cash reward was would come to me. Then, I got to know that the cash reward is distributed among the team.“
It’s a team sport; in reality, no one individual can win the match,” Hardik Pandya stated, highlighting how the team is of more importance than an individual.
