Nothing he can’t do: Former Indian opener heaps praise on Rohit Sharma after Ranchi Test

Rohit had been struggling with the bat in the first two matches but has scored a century and a fifty in the last two matches to help India secure the series.

Rohit Sharma, the captain and batter, played a crucial role in India winning the Ranchi Test. His tactics and important 55-run knock in the chase helped the hosts seal the series, 3-1. Although 192 seemed like a gettable target but India had failed to chase down 231 in the first Test of the India vs England Test series.

With that in mind and an inexperienced and misfiring middle-order, the skipper stood up. Talking about his performance on his YouTube channel, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra said:

“Rohit Sharma has 4000 Test runs and has played 100 innings. He has great records, but despite scoring multiple Test hundred, this half-century was special,” Chopra said, highlighting how only a handful of Indian batters had experience batting in the fourth inning.

On playing in tough conditions in Ranchi and what makes Rohit Sharma a ‘complete’ player against well, he said:

“The skipper playing well in tough conditions (Ranchi) was absolutely imperative if India wanted to win. Why does he play spin well? He defends well, steps out, sweeps, and plays with soft hands; there is nothing that he does not do.”
