Want to play against the best: James Anderson is missing Virat Kohli in IND vs ENG Tests

Anderson is the most successful bowler against Kohli in Test cricket, having dismissed him seven times. Their on-field battle has always brought out the best in them.

Virat Kohli vs James Anderson is the battle everyone wanted to see in the India vs England Test series. However, due to the former Indian skipper’s unavailability for the series, fans missed out on the mouth-watering contest. It turns out that not only the fans but also Anderson himself were raring to have a go at his nemesis.

Talking about ‘missing’ the Virat Kohli challenge and their battle on the field, the pacer, while talking with JioCinema before the third Test in Rajkot, said:

Yeah, you always want to play against the best players. And it’s been a shame that he’s not been a part of the series. We have had some great battles over the years.”

Anderson expressed that while he and the English cricket team aren’t happy that he’s not present for the India vs England Test series, some fans back home will be happy. Calling the Indian great ‘the best’, the veteran pacer nearing his 700-wicket milestone said:

“But not just for me, I think as a team you want to play against the best in the world and he certainly is that. I guess English fans will be thankful he’s not playing because he’s such a quality player. But from our point of view, you want to test yourself, you want to come up against the best and he’s been someone who I’ve found really challenging to bowl at over the years and it’s a shame he’s not been playing.
