Neeraj Chopra qualifies for Paris Olympics after 88.77m throw in World Championships

Neeraj Chopra has booked his spot in the Paris Olympics 2024 after a masisve throw of 88.77m in the World Athletics Championships 2023 qualification round.

Paris Olympics 2024: India’s star Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra has booked his spot in the Paris Olympics 2024. The 25-year old achieved the qualification mark for the Olympics after recording a massive 88.77m throw in the World Athletics Championship Qualification round on Friday, 25th August 2023.

Neeraj Chopra also books spot in World Championships Final

In the World Championships, Neeraj Chopra was placed in the Group A. The Olympic gold medalist recorded a massive throw of 88.77m in his very first attempt and qualified for the final straightaway. The world’s top-ranked javelin thrower, didn’t take his second and third attempts. In the World Championships, 83.00m is the qualification mark for the final.

88.77m is also Neeraj’s season-best throw. Earlier this year he won the Doha Diamond League and the Lausanne Diamond League with 88.67m and 87.66m throws respectively.

Meanwhile, the qualification mark for the Paris Olympics in the Men’s Javelin Throw is 85.50m. The qualifying window for the quadrennial event began on July 1.

In the Paris Olympics, Chopra will be defending his Olympic title. The 25-year old scripted history in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 by becoming the first-ever Indian athlete to win an Olympic Gold medal. He achieved the feat by recording a 87.58m throw.

Neeraj will now focus on winning his maiden World Athletics Championships gold medal. In the last edition of the event, he bagged the silver medal, becoming the first-ever Indian male to win a medal in the prestigious tournament.
